For the past year my friend has been raving about how amazing Gary Fong is, so for a present he gave me a copy of the book. I knew that I was going to love this moment since I read the back cover of the book. Gary was changed by a bumper sticker…a flippin’ bumper sticker! All it said was, ”Since I gave up hope, I feel a lot better.”
Throughout the book, he mentions how that quote lifted a burden off his shoulders. He is of the opinion that if you plan for the future, you’re basically limiting yourself. The more I thought about it the more he was right! It might seem like the lazy approach, but near the end of the book, he really focused on the preparing for what’s next, not planning it. As long as you’re prepared, what does it matter what happens next?
The book is FULL of great memories (after all, this is a memoir). Crazy women. Crazy photographers. Crazy parents. It’s the most enjoyable book I’ve read in years. Maybe one day, I’ll get to meet Gary at a convention, but even if I don’t I still have great memories from the book.
